About the Australian Labradoodle Breed

The Australian Labradoodle originated in the late 1980’s from the efforts of Wally Conran.  He mixed Labrador Retrievers with  Standard Poodles. The current bloodlines were perfected by the owners of Tegan Park and Rutland Manor, both based in Australia.

The Australian Labradoodles that we know today are Labrador Retriever & Poodle cross bred with American and English Cocker Spaniel and Irish Water Spaniel. This combination results in producing an intelligent puppy with a lovable disposition and beautiful coat.

These dogs were originally bred to be asthma and allergy friendly as well as low/non shedding. A natural bi-product of this breeding is a conspicuous lack of dog odor and shedding. The even temperament and calm demeanor of Australian Labradoodles makes them excellent candidates to become service dogs and is also a big part of what makes them exceptional family friendly pets. We can certainly speak from experience to the patience and attention these dogs afford. They are highly intelligent and are a preferred breed for their excellent health, temperament and ease of training as well as their family friendly attitudes and lack of general allergens.

Cove Lake Labradoodles specializes in small to medium sized Australian Labradoodles. They are the the smaller size and they typically weigh from 19-30 lbs as adults.
